With support from a BT2P Psychosocial Well-Being Grant, this project examined the impact of participation in a (science-oriented) Living-Learning Community on students’ well-being and college adjustment throughout their first year of college. Surveying students, the project team compared the experience of students who participated in the Living-Learning Community (LLC) with first-years who did not. LLC students were also surveyed on their perceptions of and satisfaction with the LLC, and multiple focus groups were conducted with LLC students. The study documented that students in the LLC (which is now called Tesla House) showed greater levels of flourishing and adjusting to the college experience, and it suggested that among the most important benefits of being in a living-learning community was stronger peer relationships and community support.
