The mission of the Bennington College Center for the Advancement of Public Action (CAPA) is to educate undergraduate students in public action and to work with students, thought-partners, and community stakeholders to engage urgent social, political, and environmental problems. CAPA is also a space for pedagogical experimentation and the development of new curricular platforms suited to grappling with significant public problems. A Program Development Grant from Bringing Theory to Practice enabled the College to plan CAPA’s programming and growth, with special emphasis on the development of a year-long course to immerse first-year students in the urgent challenges framing the CAPA curriculum and equip them with the capacities required to effectively address these challenges.
